Mag nu met pokerprofs Unibet naar World Series of Poker in Las Vegas

Malta, 15 november 2010 – Joyce Makaay, de vrouw van Roy, heeft gisteren het pokergala voor profvoetballers op haar naam geschreven. Ze versloeg in een spannende finale Frank de Boer. Het ging vooral om de eer, maar als beloning mag de spelersvrouw samen met haar man haar pokerkunsten gaan vertonen in hét kaartwalhalla: de prestigieuze World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas in juni 2011. Het pokerevent werd gisteren in het Haagse Hilton Hotel georganiseerd door Sportmanagementbureau Sport Promotion van Rob Jansen ter gelegenheid van de opening van het nieuwe kantoor (in het nieuwe Hilton The Hague) en het 15-jarig bestaan van zijn bedrijf.

Kenmerkend voor het pokergala was de gedrevenheid van de (ex-)profvoetballers en spelersvrouwen om ook aan de pokertafel te laten zien wat ze waard zijn. Zo ook de winnaars Joyce en Roy Makaay. “Als we ergens aan mee doe, willen we winnen. Dus ook met poker. Bovendien is het fantastisch dat we straks in Las Vegas kunnen aanschuiven bij de pokergroten der aarde, waaronder de profs van het Unibet-team, zoals Paul Valkenburg en Daniel van Kalkeren.” De reis naar Las Vegas wordt beschikbaar gesteld door Unibet en Sport Promotion.

Spannende eindstrijd
In totaal deden ruim 200 spelers mee aan het pokergala. Onder de aanwezigen waren vele prominenten, zoals Edwin van der Sar, Leo Beenhakker, Dirk Kuyt, Patrick Kluivert, Dennis Bergkamp en Bert van Marwijk. De sfeer was uitstekend. Frank Lammers voorzag de avond van deskundig commentaar. Uiteindelijk belandde Joyce Makaay samen met onder andere Frank de Boer en Pierre van Hooijdonk aan de finaletafel. In een spannende eindstrijd bleek Joyce Makaay uiteindelijk over de beste kaarten te beschikken.
